Just got back from my second Appleseed Rimfire Known Distance event, see HERE for details of the first. The wind ate my lunch at the first one, and muzzle drop was significant. For this second outing, I left the CCi SV at home, and I ran CCI Minimags, with Aguila Super Extra High-Velocity for a backup.
I also rebuilt my rifle with a couple of inches of extra barrel (see HERE), which I was hoping would help stabilize the round a little more.

Saturday we gathered Dope, and I was pleased with the extra velocity; the drop was 6-8 less MOA at 200. The weather was nicer than in October, and while there was wind, it wasn’t blasting across the range. Again, setting up, zeroing, and gathering dope took all of Saturday, and we didn’t shoot a test until Sunday. I always enjoy the Revolutionary War history at Appleseed events, and the stories told at KD events differ from the regular clinic.
Sunday, we started the day with a recap and finalizing dope for the new temperatures, etc., then commenced the test.
Stage 1, 50 yards standing, time 2 minutes, 50 yards. Well, last October in the terrible wind, I shot all tests clear, perfect 10’s, not to be this time, pulled a shot, and shot a 9.
Stage 2, 100 Yards, start standing, transition to seated, and have a mag change, time allowed 55 seconds. Not a great stage, add another 6 hits to the initial for a running score of 15 out of the 40 needed.
Stage 3, 150 yards, start standing, transition to prone, and have a mag change, time allowed 65 seconds. Recover from the previous round and shoot another solid 9, running total 24.
That means on Stage 4, the 200-yard Prone slow fire round, I need 8 hits, which count double. Last October, in 4 rounds, I managed 3 hits, total, out of a possible 40. Nothing to worry about here, right? Shooting my 2-7 scope, I cannot see hits on paper at anything over 50 yards, so after a smooth round where I checked my NPOA after every shot I head down range to count my hits. EIGHT! doubled makes 16, giving me the required 40, right on the money, Riflemen achieved.

We break for lunch and some more history, and again we have the “surprise” 125-yard Morgan’s shingle shot. I make the same 2/3rd adjustment for 150 yards. We made our shots, and then I headed down range to check my results. Hit! The target is approximately 3″ x 6″ and I hit about 1″ from the right edge, mid elevation.
The rest of the weekend passed smoothly, but I didn’t achieve another Rifelmen score.
