Back in January, I picked up a Springfield Hellcat Pro OSP. I topped it off with a Holosun 507k red dot and headed to the range a few times to see how she’d handle. I didn’t hate it; in fact, I shot it better than my Shield, though not quite as well as my XD—which is to be expected given the difference in frame size.
I did run into a bit of a snag with the optic. I found I had to shim the Holosun just to get it to zero at anything less than 25 yards, and I really don’t need a carry handgun zeroed that far out.
A friend of mine has the identical setup but with an Apex trigger installed, and after a few rounds with his, I was sold. The pull was slightly lighter, but more importantly, it was much smoother and crisper than the factory offering. I ordered one for myself and managed the install in about 45 minutes—even without the suggested vice to press in the pin. After another trip to the range, I’m now shooting it almost as well as my XD. I’ve also added a Hogue grip, as the factory “blocky” feel was a bit much for me.

The Verdict
Pros:
- Smaller, more concealable form factor.
- Slide comes pre-drilled for an optic.
- Night sights included as standard.
- 15 rounds in a remarkably slim package.
Cons:
- The grip feels a bit like a square block.
- The stock trigger is a little rough and has a nasty habit of pinching the finger.
Would I buy it again knowing what I know now? Yes, absolutely. It just needed a little bit of “EnglishBob” refinement to make it right!
